Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, is the most abundant and common cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol has psychoactive properties acting on the psyche by modifying the cerebral rhythm, it also has anti-inflammatory properties.

It was isolated in 1964 by Professor Raphael Mechoulam and Yechiel Gaoni of the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel.

Dronabinol is the name of synthetic THC, it is marketed under the name Marinol.
